PASSERIFORMES: Maluridae
Amytornis dorotheae
We spent several hours and walked nine kilometres as measured by a GPS logger, back and forth through spinifex, along ridges, down gullies and over small escarpments and were making a final swing across some small sandstone hills before returning to our vehicle when we flushed and were able to observe for a short time, this solitary Carpentarian Grasswren.
This was the northernmost extremity of our 6,000 kilometre outback drive up the Birdsville Track and through western Queensland before heading south-east towards Brisbane, and it was the furthestmost bird we were trying to see so we were elated to have success!
